COPPER

70% of the copper in ELVs’ can be found in wire harnesses, i.e. a weight of around 11kg, the remainder being found in the different mechanical parts. An estimated 80% to 90% of the copper from ELVs is not specifically recovered. It is shredded with platin (i.e. the body of the vehicle after decontamination and collection of the materials and parts to be recycled) and only a few shredders are equipped with sophisticated automatic sorting equipment to extract copper after shredding.
