DISMANTLING

INDRA, via conventions, commissions and training sessions organised within its network of ELV Centres, promotes a culture of exchange and sharing.

ICARRE95 is consistent with this dynamic. For dismantling ELVs for Second-hand Spare Parts and Materials, after analysing professional practices within the network and the resources developed at global level, we examined the methods and resources to be leveraged, responding to the needs and constraints of the industry (instruction sheets, equipment).

ICARRE95 therefore helps implement user-friendly, productive and environmentally friendly processes which improve the quality of the second-hand spare parts and materials produced.

Several dismantling projects were conducted as part of the ICARRE95 project, each providing solutions to achieve a 95% ELV recovery rate:

1 - ELV DIMANTLING DATABASE

Creation of a database to measure the dismantling time and weight of dismantled spare parts and materials on a panel of 45 cars. This database forms part of the input data of the guidance software application for ELV Centres. It is also used to identify potential productivity gains in the dismantling chain (resulting in the dismantling sheets, the creation of the dismantling line and the destructive dismantling tool)

2 - DISMANTLING SHEETS

All parts most commonly dismantled, all makes combined, are covered by dismantling sheets. These computerised sheets can be displayed on every workstation and enable operators to know at a glance how to dismantle a particular part (simple diagrams and pictograms)

3 - PROTOTYPE OF A DESTRUCTIVE DISMANTLING TOOL

The destructive dismantling tool helps recover material very quickly. It is used where spare parts are traditionally not dismantled (metals from the engine, dashboard wiring, etc.). It has been designed to be paid off within 2 years by the ELV Centre.

4 - CREATION OF THE DISMANTLING LINE

The dismantling line was created to integrate the destructive dismantling prototype (improved productivity, better collection of the dashboard’s wire harnesses, larger volume of materials extracted).

5 - IMPLEMENTATION OF THE DISMANTLING PROCESS ON INDRA’S ROMORANTIN

The full dismantling process was implemented in Romorantin. The objective is to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of a 95% recovery rate in a significant industrial process (4,000 to 5,000 ELVs/year)

6 - GUIDANCE SOFTWARE APPLICATION FOR ELV CENTRES

The guidance software application for ELV Centres offers a choice of actions to be undertaken to achieve the 95% target. Input data consists of the dismantling database, information on the performance of the shredder associated with the wrecker and/or data from ADEME, the resale cost of the recovered material.

7 - ENGINE DISMANTLING ON RENAULT’S CHOISY SITE

The Choisy plant reconditions second-hand engines. The study focused on the technical and economic optimisation of this operation through the improved management of the engines to be dismantled/reconditioned ratio, the adapted sourcing of engines and the organisation of the dismantling chain.
